Meeting Description: 

The 28th Annual Meeting of the Department of Linguistics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd, April 2007. 

The broad theme of the meeting is, as always, the Greek language, but this year the focus will be on language and society, from any theoretical perspective. For example, classical sociolinguistics, sociology of language, interactive sociolinguistics, conversation analysis, critical discourse analysis, etc. 

The Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Philosophy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, is pleased to announce that its 28th Annual Meeting will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd, April 2007. 

The broad theme of the meeting is, as always, the Greek language, but this year the focus will be on language and society, from any theoretical perspective, for example, classical sociolinguistics, sociology of language, interactive sociolinguistics, conversation analysis, critical discourse analysis, etc.

The keynote speakers of the conference will be:
Prof. Penny Eckert (Stanford University, US)
Prof. Emanuel Schegloff (University of California, Los Angeles, US)
Prof. Ruth Wodak (Lancaster University, UK)

Interested colleagues are hereby invited to submit abstracts of papers (20 min presentation, 10 min discussion) relating to the meeting's theme. Abstracts should be submitted in three (3) copies, exclusively via surface mail, by January 22, 2007, at the following address:

Notifications will be sent by February 28, 2007.

The Meeting's Program Committee comprises all faculty members of the Department of Linguistics, who will also select the papers to be included in the Proceedings volume.  

Please note that at most 40 papers will be accepted for presentation, and that each participant will be entitled to only one (single or joint) presentation.
