Description:

Research assistant positions available, Yeled v'Yalda Multilingual
Development & Education Research Institute, New York, from mid-november. 

Part-time research positions available for advanced undergraduate/graduate
students in linguistics/psychology/communication disorders to work on an
NSF-funded project on the comprehension and production of subject-verb
agreement and a number of other projects on language/child development.

The work involves data collection, transcription, the analyses of
questionnaires, the preparation of experimental stimuli, the coding of
visual Intermodal Preferential Looking paradigm data and the statistical
analyses of the results.  The number of hours ($25 per hour) are flexible
and depend on the student's availability.

For the NSF-funded project- a collaboration with Geraldine Legendre, Johns
Hopkins University and Thierry Nazzi, Laboratoire Cognition &
Developpement, CNRS, Paris- familiarity with French or another Romance
language is preferred but not essential.  For the other projects,
familiarity with another language such as Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish
and Yiddish is preferred but not essential. 

The Research Assistants will be working in the context of the newly
established YvY Multilingual Research Institute founded and directed by Dr
Barriere and Dr Ellis under the supervision of Dr Barriere.  Its mission is
to enhance our understanding of typical, delayed and atypical child
development and education, with an emphasis on different languages and
cultures.  It is a department of Yeled v'Yalda Early Childhood Center
(www.yeled.org), a non-profit organization that serves more than 2,000
children in education programs and more than 4,000 children in
health-related programs.
