EVALITA is a new initiative devoted to the evaluation of Natural Language
Processing tools for Italian. The general objective of EVALITA is to promote the
development of language technologies for the Italian language, providing a
shared framework where different systems and approaches can be evaluated in a
consistent manner.

EVALITA 2007 - Third Call for Participation

We are pleased to announce that training data are available for all EVALITA 2007
tasks. We take this opportunity to launch a third call for participation.

EVALITA is a new initiative devoted to the evaluation of Natural Language
Processing tools for Italian. The general objective of EVALITA is to promote the
development of language technologies for the Italian language, providing a
shared framework where different systems and approaches can be evaluated in a
consistent manner.

We invite participation, both from academic institutions and industrial
organizations, in five tasks, all for Italian:

- Part of Speech Tagging
- Parsing
- Word Sense Disambiguation
- Temporal Expression Recognition and Normalization
- Named Entity Recognition

As with other international evaluation campaigns, participants will be provided
with training data and will have the chance to test their systems with the
evaluation metrics and procedures to be used in the formal evaluation.
More detailed information can be found in the guidelines of each single task,
available for download from the EVALITA website:

The results of the evaluation will be disseminated at the final workshop, which
will be organized in conjunction with AI*IA 2007 and will take place on
September 10th at Villa Mondragone, a XVI century ''Villa Tuscolana'' located
between Frascati and Monte Porzio Catone, only 20 km from Rome. Participants
will be asked to write a technical report, which will be published in a special
issue of Intelligenza Artificiale, the journal of Associazione Italiana
Intelligenza Artificiale (AI*IA), and will have the opportunity to describe
their systems at the final workshop.

Participation to EVALITA is free of charge. The final workshop will have a
registration fee due to organization costs. In order to register to one or more

15th Feb 2007: on-line registration opens
1st March 2007: development data and detailed guidelines
                           available to participants
20th May 2007: test data available; registration closes

10th Sept 2007: final workshop, Rome

Meeting Description:

The English Department at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade,
is pleased to announce an international conference entitled English
Language and Literature Studies: Structures Across Cultures (ELLSSAC). 
The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers who investigate
various aspects of English language and literature in comparison and
contrast to other languages and literatures. 

Papers in the following fields are invited: Theoretical Linguistics,
Applied Linguistics, Literary Studies, and Cultural Studies. The official
language of the conference is English. A selection of papers will be
published after the conference. Abstracts of up to 300 words should be sent
by e-mail (as Word attachments) to: anglistika at fil.bg.ac.yu  or ekv at eunet.yu.
