Description:

Center for Language and Cognition, University of Groningen announces the
following positions:

Two PhD positions in Language, multilingualism and integration (0.9 fte each): 

- One for a native speaker of Turkish (vacancy number 207083)
- One for a native speaker of Moroccan Arabic (vacancy number 207084)

The research is to be carried out in the context of the NWO-funded program
'Language, multilingualism and integration', which aims to investigate
linguistic, sociolinguistic, social and sociodemographic factors of
bilingual development among Turkish and Moroccan migrants in The
Netherlands and Germany. The project is supervised by Kees de Bot and
Monika S. Schmid. 

The successful applicants receive training within the Dutch LOT-system
(participating in the LOT Summer/Winter Schools), and carry out research
within the Language and literacy development over the life span group of
CLCG, leading to a dissertation after 4 years. 

Preference will be given to candidates with training/experience in
quantitative methodology. 

Requirements
- a MA degree in (Applied) Linguistics, or a related field 
- excellent record of undergraduate and Master's level study
- excellent proficiency in English. Additional knowledge of Dutch and/or
German is helpful but not essential. 
- ability to work together with other researchers

Conditions of employment
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2502 
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: Four years, starting as soon as posible
Maximum hours per week: 36

Additional conditions of employment:
The University of Groningen offers a salary of € 1956 gross per month in
the first year up to a maximum € 2502 gross per month in the fourth year
(figures based on full employment). The positions require residence in
Groningen, 36 hours/week research, and must result in a PhD dissertation.
After the first year there will be an assessment of the candidates' results
and the progress of the project to decide whether the employment will be
continued.
