Meeting Description:

Syntactic differences across languages have been regarded as the result of
variation on universal principles, and this variation has been captured in terms
of parameters. Among the most frequently mentioned syntactic issues in the
parameter approaches are the licensing conditions of null subjects, the
head-complement orders, the occurrence of certain types of overt syntactic
movement. However, the notion of syntactic parameters is not uncontroversial
(Uriagereka 1994, Baker 2001, Newmeyer 2004, 2005, Aronoff 2003, among others).
The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum to discuss syntactic facts that
either support or challenge the parameter approaches, in the Minimalist
theoretical framework. In addition to the "regular" mode of studies,
experimental studies, acquisition studies, and sign language studies are all
welcome. 

Important Dates:

August 31, 2007: Deadline for submitting the abstract.
November 30, 2007: Notification of acceptance.

Form and submission of abstracts:

An abstract (.pdf or .doc file) should be up to 3 pages long, including data and
references.

The abstract should start with the title of the paper, followed by the text of
the abstract.

Please do not include the author's name in the abstract. On a separate page,
please give the author's name, affiliation, e-mail address, telephone number,
mailing address, the paper title and the session number (title).

Meeting Description

The 5th Graduate Colloquium of Slavic Linguistics is an annual meeting of
graduate students in Slavic Linguistics organized by the Department of Slavic
and East European Languages and Literatures at the Ohio State University. The
Colloquium promotes the study of Slavic Linguistics by providing graduate
students with opportunities to exchange research ideas, establish research
connections, and investigate possibilities for collaboration with students from
different academic institutions.

5th Graduate Colloquium on Slavic Linguistics

Call for papers

The Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Literatures, and 
the Center for Slavic and East European Studies at the Ohio State University are
pleased to announce the Fifth Graduate Colloquium on Slavic Linguistics. The
colloquium will take place on September 29, 2007 at the Ohio State University
campus in Columbus, OH.

We invite students from all areas of Slavic linguistics, including but not
restricted to, phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics,
historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics and dialectology to
submit abstracts. 

We encourage students working in both formal and functional frameworks to
participate in this event. Interdisciplinary projects from the students in
related fields such as anthropology, sociology, psychology, comparative studies
are welcome, as far as they are related to Slavic linguistics. 

Each presentation will be allowed 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion.

Please send abstracts of maximum 500 words to Anastasia Smirnova
(smirnova at ling.ohio-state.edu), or Matthew Curtis (curtis.199 at osu.edu). 

The abstracts should be anonymous, and we ask you to include your name,
affiliation, mailing address, and email address in the body of the email.

The deadline for abstract submission was extended to August 10th 2007.

Accommodation with local graduate students will be available.
