The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

The Discourse of Reading Groups/Book Clubs

One-year full-time research post, based at the Open University, UK. Start
date: November 2007

Salary scale: £25,134 - £32,796

Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate to work on
an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded research project on
the discourse of reading groups/book clubs. The research looks at the kinds
of interpretations and evaluations reading group members provide of
contemporary fiction and other literary texts, and how these relate to the
professional judgments of literary critics and academics. You will work
with other members of the research team in collecting and analysing a range
of language data (reading group discussions, interviews, other supporting
data) using a framework developed by the research team.

You need a higher degree in linguistics (including applied linguistics or
sociolinguistics), English or a related discipline. Experience in the
qualitative analysis of spoken interaction and/or in corpus linguistics
