The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

University or Organization: Yale University
Department: Linguistics
Web Address: http://www.yale.edu/linguistics

Job Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialty Areas: Historical Linguistics

Description:

The Department of Linguistics is conducting a search to fill a possible
tenure track position in Historical Linguistics at the level of Assistant
or (non-tenured) Associate Professor, to begin in Fall, 2008. Particular
consideration will be given to candidates with broad scholarly interests,
including the relations between historical and synchronic linguistics, and
who have made significant contributions to the comparative study of some
group of historically related languages. Candidates should be assured of
completing the requirements for the PhD by the summer of 2008 at the
latest. Evidence of successful teaching at both the undergraduate and
graduate levels will also be taken into consideration in making an appointment.

Applicants should send a current CV, two or three representative pieces of
research by regular mail only (no emails) and the names of potential
references by 15 December, 2007 to the application address listed below.
Material already submitted in connection with our search in this area in
2006-7 need not be duplicated, but should be explicitly referenced in the
letter of application. Please do not have letters of recommendation sent to
us before we explicitly request them: such unsolicited letters will be
disregarded in the appointment process. We hope to interview potential
candidates at the annual meeting of the Linguistic Society of America in
Chicago, IL in January 2008, and additional applications may be submitted
at that time.

Yale University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer, and we
especially encourage applications from women and members of
under-represented minorities.
