Meeting Description:

The Fifth Workshop on Altaic Formal Linguistics (WAFL 5) will be held at
SOAS, University of London. Dates: 23 - 25 May, 2008. Abstracts are invited
for 20-minute presentations on formal aspects of any area of theoretical
Altaic linguistics, including syntax, phonology, morphology, and semantics.
Invited speakers are Asli Göksel (Bogaziçi University), Nobuko Hasegawa
(Kanda University of International Studies), and Michael Kenstowicz (MIT).
The workshop will include a special session on Comparative Altaic Syntax. 

Fifth Workshop on Altaic Formal Linguistics (WAFL5)
23 - 25 May, 2008 at SOAS, University of London

The Department of Linguistics and Turkish Studies at the School of Oriental
and African Studies, University of London are pleased to announce the Fifth
Workshop on Altaic Formal Linguistics (WAFL5) on 23-24-25 May 2008 (Friday,
Saturday, Sunday). Along with a General Session, there will be a Special
Session on Comparative Altaic Syntax and talks by invited speakers. 

General Session 
Abstracts are invited for 20-minute presentations (plus 10 minutes
discussion) on topics dealing with formal aspects of any area of
theoretical Altaic linguistics, including syntax, phonology, morphology,
and semantics. 

Special Session: 	Comparative Altaic Syntax 
			        organized by 
			        Jaklin Kornfilt (Syracuse University)
                                Shigeru Miyagawa (MIT)

Invited Speakers:  	Asl Göksel (Boaziçi University)
                                Nobuko  Hasegawa (Kanda University of

Abstact Submission 
Abstracts should be no more than two pages, single-spaced, 12-font, 1-inch
margins; examples should be part of the text. All abstracts should be sent
electronically to the conference e-mail address wafl5 at soas.ac.uk  as
attachments in pdf format or Microsoft Office Word. Please note that no
more than one singly-authored and one co-authored abstract may be submitted
per author. 

The following information is also requested: 

1. paper title 
2. name(s) of author(s) 
3. affiliation(s) of author(s) 
4. email address to which the notification of acceptance should be mailed 
5. contact phone and fax numbers for each author 
6. address for each author 

This information should be in a separate file or included as part of the
body of the e-mail message.

The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 30 December, 2007. Abstracts will
be reviewed anonymously. The notification of acceptance will be sent around
the end of January, 2008.
