Newcastle University is launching a new MA in Linguistics of European
Languages from 2008.
This one-year intensive programme provides students with the opportunity to
study linguistics of European languages, especially of French, German, or
Spanish. It is suited for graduates with a B.A. (or equivalent) degree,
whether from a British or an overseas institution, in a European language
other than English who want to know more about that language and
linguistics in general. The programme can lead to an academic career, while
also being attractive for employers in business, media, and journalism.
This programme draws on the expertise of linguists in the School of Modern
Languages, specializing in French, German, and Spanish, and linguists in
the School of English Literature, Language, and Linguistics. Newcastle
University has one of the largest communities of linguists in the UK and
beyond, all housed in our newly established Centre for Research in
Linguistics and Language Sciences (CRiLLS).
