Description:

An appointment at the rank of lecturer is intended in the area of American
Sign Language instruction.  We seek candidates who are native or
near-native signers of ASL.  Candidates should either be ASLTA certified or
working towards such certification. Experience teaching ASL at the
post-secondary level is required.  Candidates who hold an MA in
linguistics, ASL studies, psychology, education, or a related field are
preferred.  Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching. 

Responsibilities include establishment of a new beginning and intermediate
level ASL program at UW; teaching two undergraduate classes per quarter in
ASL and Deaf Culture; evaluation of students for placement within the
program; commitment to program enrichment, including all activities related
to teaching and advising; and working with Language Learning Center staff
on the development of resources for ASL classes.

The 100% FTE appointment (three quarters per year) begins September 16,
2007 and is renewable on an annual basis.  A letter of interest, curriculum
vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, teaching portfolio (course
syllabi, student evaluations, etc.), and three letters of recommendation
should be sent to the address below.

Priority will be given to applications received before March 1, 2007.
