Meeting Description
WoLLIC is an annual international forum on inter-disciplinary research involving
formal logic, computing and programming theory, and natural language and
reasoning. Each meeting includes invited talks and tutorials as well as
contributed papers. Contributions are invited on all pertinent subjects, with
particular interest in cross-disciplinary topics.

14th Workshop on Logic, Language, Information and Computation
(WoLLIC'2007)
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
July 2-5, 2007
WoLLIC is an annual international forum on inter-disciplinary research
involving formal logic, computing and programming theory, and natural
language and reasoning. Each meeting includes invited talks and
tutorials as well as contributed papers.
The Fourteenth WoLLIC will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from
July 2 to July 5, 2007, and sponsored by the Association for Symbolic
Logic (ASL), the Interest Group in Pure and Applied Logics (IGPL),
the European Association for Logic, Language and Information
(FoLLI), the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science
(EATCS), the Sociedade Brasileira de Computacao (SBC), and the
Sociedade Brasileira de Logica (SBL).
Paper Submission
Contributions are invited on all pertinent subjects, with particular
interest in cross-disciplinary topics. Typical but not exclusive
areas of interest are: foundations of computing and programming;
novel computation models and paradigms; broad notions of proof and
belief;
formal methods in software and hardware development; logical approach to
natural language and reasoning; logics of programs, actions and
resources;
foundational aspects of information organization, search, flow, sharing,
and protection.
Proposed contributions should be in English, and consist of a scholarly
exposition accessible to the non-specialist, including motivation,
background, and comparison with related works.
They must not exceed 10 pages (in font 10 or higher), with up to
5 additional pages for references and technical appendices.
The paper's main results must not be published or submitted
for publication in refereed venues, including journals and other
scientific meetings.
It is expected that each accepted paper be presented at the meeting by
one of its authors.
Papers must be submitted electronically at

A title and single-paragraph abstract should be submitted by
February 23, and the full paper by March 2 (firm date).
Notifications are expected by April 13, and final papers for
the proceedings will be due by April 27 (firm date).
Proceedings
Proceedings, including both invited and contributed papers,
will be published in advance of the meeting.
Publication venue: Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science.

Meeting Description:
The Linguistics Section of the Romance Department of the Faculty of Arts of the
University of Porto and the Centre of Linguistics of the same University are
organising an international colloquium with the goal of putting together
specialists on theory of change and on change and variation in Romance languages.
Although governed by some abstract universal principles, languages are not a
stable and fix phenomenon, being subject to change and variation. Romance
languages are not an exception. In the last decades much research has been done
in the fields of Historical Linguistics, History of Romance Languages,
Sociolinguistics.
There is a lot of interesting questions that can be discussed in this forum:
(i) What recent approaches of the history of Romance Languages can bring to the
more general understanding of language change?
(ii) Is it possible to establish a correlation between the available results on
change and sociolinguistic conditions?
(iii) How far can ongoing changes in Romance languages and particularly in
Portuguese help us to understand the mechanisms of language change?
(iv) To what extent language contact in Africa and other continents is
influencing Romance languages?
The International Colloquium on Change and Variation in Portuguese will take
place in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto (FLUP), in December
13-15, 2007. There are 18 slots of 30 minutes for selected talks of 20m followed
by 10m of discussion; the colloquium will also have two invited speakers:
Christianne Marchello-Nizia (Professeur émérite, ENS-LSH, Lyon)
Gian Paolo Salvi (University Loránd Eötvös, Budapest, Hungary)
Abstracts cannot exceed two pages of text, with 2.5cm margin of all four sides
(A4 paper). Font: Times New Roman, 12 point, line spacing: single. Abstracts may
include an extra page for references and examples.
Abstracts should be sent electronically only, as Word or PDR attachments to
anamariabrito at netcabo.pt (PDF required if it contains special fonts, as phonetic
symbols or figures). One copy of the abstract must be sent anonymously and
another one with author's name, email address and affiliation.
Lay-out for the non-anonymous abstract: first line: title of the paper (in
bold); second line: author's name and email address; third line: affiliation.
The languages of the colloquium will be Portuguese, or any other Romance
Language, and English.
Deadline for abstract submission: 30th April 2007.
Acceptance notification: 8th June 2007

Mudança e Variação nas Línguas Românicas
Colóquio Internacional, Porto, 13-15 Dezembro 2007
Embora regidas por alguns princípios universais, as línguas não são um fenómeno
fixo e estão sujeitas a mudança e variação. As línguas românicas não constituem
excepção. Nas últimas décadas tem sido desenvolvida muita investigação nos
domínios da Linguística Histórica, da História das Línguas Românicas, da
Sociolinguística.
A Secção de Linguística do Departamento de Estudos Portugueses e de Estudos
Românicos da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto (FLUP), em colaboração
com o Centro de Linguística da mesma Universidade (CLUP) estão a organizar um
colóquio internacional sobre mudança e variação, nos dias 13-15 Dezembro de 2007.
Há uma série de questões interessantes que podem ser discutidas neste fórum:
(i) O que é que as investigações recentes sobre a história e a mudança das
línguas românicas podem trazer à compreensão geral sobre a mudança e a variação
linguísticas?
(ii) Será possível estabelecer correlações entre os resultados disponíveis sobre
a história da língua portuguesa e as condições sociolinguísticas?
(iii) Como é que as mudanças que estão a ocorrer nas línguas românicas podem
ajudar-nos a compreender os mecanismos da mudança linguística?
(iv) Em que medida o contacto entre línguas em África e noutros continentes está
a influenciar as línguas românicas?
O Colóquio Internacional ''Mudança e Variação nas Línguas Românicas'' terá lugar
na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto (FLUP), de 13 a 15 Dezembro de
2007. Haverá espaço para 18 comunicações seleccionadas de 20m com 10m de
discussão. O colóquio terá ainda dois conferencistas convidados:

Os resumos não devem exceder duas páginas de texto, com 2.5cm de margem dos
quatro lados (A4). Fonte: Times New Roman, 12 pontos, espaço entre linhas:
simples. Os resumos podem incluir uma página extra para referências
bibliográficas e exemplos.
Os resumos devem ser enviados electronicamente para anamariabrito at netcabo.pt,
como documentos Word ou PDR em anexo (é requerida uma versão PDF se houver
fontes especiais, como símbolos fonéticos ou esquemas).
Devem ser enviadas duas cópias do resumo: uma anónima e outra com o nome do
autor, direcção de email e instituição.
Lay-out da cópia não anónima: primeira linha: título do artigo (em bold);
segunda linha: nome do autor e direcção de email; terceira linha: instituição.
As línguas do colóquio são o Português, ou qualquer outra língua românica, e o
Inglês.
Limite para enviar resumos: 30 de Abril de 2007.
Notificação da aceitação: 8 de Junho de 2007.
