================================================================

The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:
Health organizations need practical tools to assess the quality of materials
developed for populations unable to read English. Bilinguals, language
professionals and professional translators, with advanced/superior proficiency
in Spanish, Chinese, Russian or Vietnamese interested assessing the quality of
translated materials are invited to submit a resume and complete a required
application.

Current approaches for assessing the quality of translations enjoy limited
success and applicability. Researchers and practitioners agree divergent
definitions of quality and a lack of consensus hinder progress in this area.
This project draws on current theories of translation quality assessment, the
experience of translators of health materials and applies lessons from studying
translation errors to develop a tool to assess the quality of translated
materials. Raters are needed to test a prototype Translation Quality Assessment
(TQA) tool.
