Description:
Founded in 1947, University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is an
accredited institution dedicated to providing working adults, military
personnel, and students worldwide with the opportunity to achieve their academic
goals through online instruction, accelerated academic programs, and
classroom-based courses taught during the daytime, evenings, and weekends.  We
are currently recruiting for a Collegiate Faculty/Academic Director of Foreign
Languages for the School of Undergraduate Studies.

The Collegiate Faculty/Academic Director of Foreign Languages supports the
Assistant Dean (Communication, Arts, and Humanities) by providing leadership and
management of the undergraduate foreign language courses and certificate
program; develop and revise courses, both for traditional and online delivery,
in Spanish, German, Japanese, Arabic and other languages to support the needs of
students for general education credit, and in response to societal demand;
recruit, hire, staff, and supervise adjunct and collegiate faculty; assist with
the implementation of institutional initiatives and assessment activities;
resolve student and adjunct faculty concerns; coordinate with Asian and European
divisions on the foreign language program and future development; teach courses
in area of
expertise; perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Assistant
Dean of Communication, Arts, and Humanities.

Qualifications:  
PhD in linguistics, applied linguistics, or second language acquisition
preferred, ABA considered; MA required. Minimum of four years administrative
experience in a four-year institution required, preferably with adult, part-time
students.  Minimum of four years experience teaching language required.
Proficiency in a foreign language required. Experience with distance delivery
and technology used in a
liberal arts curriculum preferred. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and
written communication skills required.
