Description:

The Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, The State
University of New York, seeks a scholar in Second Language Education with a
research focus on any aspect (social, linguistic, or cognitive) of English
as a Second Language learning, literacy, and teaching. The position will be
a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor with
a start date of August 25, 2007. Salaries at UB are highly competitive at
all levels.  

Description of Duties:

Establish record of publication, and educational innovation, commensurate
with rank;
Supervise and teach graduate students at the doctoral and master's levels
in the area of second language learning, literacy and/or cognitive
approaches to second/foreign language/literacy development;  
Contribute to all facets of the Second Language Area at UB:  the Bilingual
Program, the NYS Teacher Certification Programs in ESOL and Foreign
Languages, and the TESOL Program;
Contribute to language studies as outlined in the University's strategic
strength in Cultural, Historical, Literary and Textual Studies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Research focus on any aspect (social, linguistic, or cognitive) of English
as a second language learning and teaching; research in second language
literacy and cognitive approaches desirable;
Evidence of strong record in research and publications;
Expertise related to the design and methodology of innovative second
language learning and literacy environments, including those of young
English language learners in K-12 settings highly desirable;
Demonstrated excellence in the professional development of second language
teachers across different classrooms, cultures and educational systems;
Experience in successful grant writing desirable.

vitae, and three letters of reference. The review of applications will
begin February 15, 2007 and will continue until the position is filled.
