Meeting Description:

SIEF is the major international society for folklore and ethnology, and will be meeting at the University of Ulster's Magee Campus in 2008. There will be a panel on 'Ethnology &(Socio)Linguistics: the commodification of dialects and construction of identities', convened by Joan Beal and Leonie Cornips, the aim of which is to explore the ways in which ethnologists, anthropologists, folklorists and linguists might learn from each other's practices and methodologies to arrive at a fuller understanding of the relationship between language/dialect and the construction of (local) identities. 

Until relatively recently, much research in sociolinguistics had moved away from the ethnological and anthropological approaches of the early 20th century in which a view of the role of language in culture meant that linguistic systems could be studied as guides to cultural systems (Duranti 1997:53). Since then, sociolinguistics became dominated by quantitative and correlational methodologies introduced by Labov (1966), whereby speakers are categorized according to social class, gender, age, ethnicity, etc. More recently, a new emphasis on community-based research, pioneered by Eckert (2000) has sought to put the 'socio-' back into sociolinguistics, employing ethnographic fieldwork methods to study communities of practice and the role of speech styles in the construction of identity. Other scholars (e.g. Milroy 2000) have investigated links between language and identity (cf. Silverstein 1976, Bucholtz 1999, Irvine & Gall 2000).

In this panel, we aim to explore ways in which ethnologists, anthropologists, folklorists and linguists might learn from each other's practices and methodologies to arrive at a fuller understanding of the relationship between language/dialect and the construction of (local) identities. Questions to be addressed might include:

- What is the role of overt representations of dialect/non-standard such as proverbs, rhymes, jokes, nicknames i.e. blason populaire and stereotypes that (might) indicate high levels of salience/awareness in the process of language change?
- What is the role of overt representations of dialect/non-standard, performances of dialect and extralinguistic practices and/ or symbols in the construction of local identities?
- How might the study of communities of practice (Eckert 2000) be useful to ethnological/ folklore research?

Ao preparar o Segundo Fórum de Partilha Linguística os Jovens Investigadores do CLUNL vêm convidar os colegas de todas as Universidades portuguesas, cujos trabalhos se relacionam com estudos sobre línguas e/ou linguagem (Linguística, Ciências da Linguagem, Literatura, Filosofia da Linguagem, Antropologia, Sociologia,...), a participarem num colóquio multidisciplinar, dando a conhecer as suas investigações. 

As pessoas interessadas em participar no 2° Fórum de Partilha Linguística devem submeter a sua proposta de acordo com a calendarização e o regulamento seguintes:

Calendarizaco
0 de Março de 2007 -  Data limite para a pré-inscrição (com ou sem apresentação de trabalhos)
30 de Abril de 2007 -  Data limite para o envio de resumos
15 de Maio de 2007 -  Informação, aos proponentes, sobre a selecção das propostas. 

Regulamento
1. Os trabalhos poderão ser apresentados sob a forma de comunicações ou de cartazes.

2. As comunicações serão apresentadas em português e não deverão ultrapassar 20 minutos, seguidos de 10 minutos de discussão. 

3. Todos os interessados deverão enviar as Propostas de apresentação de trabalhos para o endereço do Núcleo de Jovens Investigadores: jiclunl at fcsh.unl.pt. 

4. As propostas devem conter as seguintes informações:
a) Tema e/ou título da apresentação 
b) Modalidade de apresentação - Cartaz / Comunicação
b) Autor(es)
c) Endereço de correio electrónico
d) Instituição
e) Área(s) de investigação

5. As propostas de Comunicação deverão ser acompanhadas de um resumo, com o seguinte formato:
-	Título da comunicação sem referência ao nome dos autores
-	Texto do resumo, em português,
- número de palavras, máximo 250
- letra Times New Roman, 12 pontos
- espaço entre linhas simples
- margens laterais de 2,5 cm e superior e inferior de 3 cm

6. O resumo deverá ser enviado em ficheiro Word e deverá ser nomeado fpl (Fórum de Partilha Linguística) seguido das iniciais do(s) autor(es) (exemplo: Ana Silva = fplas.doc). 

7. Todas as Propostas de apresentação de trabalhos serão avaliadas por um comité de leitura. 

8. Os resumos seleccionados serão reproduzidos no programa oficial do 2° Fórum de Partilha Linguística.

Depois do colóquio, os participantes poderão produzir um artigo que será publicado, on-line, nas Actas do 2° Fórum de Partilha Linguística.
