Meeting Description:

Anéla and GAL are pleased to announce:

Applied Linguistics: A New Generation
International Research Meeting for Junior Applied Linguists

January 24-26, 2007; University of Groningen, the Netherlands
www.anela.nl/juniorresearchmeeting

Invitation for Registration (deadline January 17)

For more than 10 years, Anéla, the Dutch affiliate of AILA, has been organizing
the so called 'junior days' to which beginning researchers, PhD students, and
graduate students are invited to present their work in an informal and
supportive setting. These meetings have been very successful over the years,
providing beginning researchers the opportunity to present their work on an
academic forum and to receive valuable feedback.

Stimulated by suggestions from the AILA International Committee, Anéla and GAL,
the German affiliate, have now planned to organize a joint International
Research Meeting for Junior Applied Linguists, aiming at an international
exchange of ideas and a stimulation of contacts between European affiliates of
AILA.

This event will take place January 24-26 2007 at the University of Groningen.
Over 85 junior researchers from different countries will present their work. The
topics vary from syntax and phonetics to language & media and intercultural
communication. The full program can be found at the website. We are pleased to
announce our plenary speakers:

- Eva-Maria Jakobs, RWTH Aachen
''We didn't actually learn it?'' Writing Competence for the Work Place

- Jan Hulstijn, University of Amsterdam
  What is language proficiency?

- Johannes Wagner, University of Southern Denmark
A short introduction to second language conversations

We invite junior and senior researchers to visit the conference. For further
information on the conference, the programme and accommodation, or to register
as a visitor for the conference (registration deadline January 17) please visit
the website or contact the local organizers.
