The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

University or Organization: Universitat Pompeu Fabra
Department: Translation and Philology
Web Address: http://www.upf.edu/dtf

Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Semantics; Morphology/Syntax-Semantics Interface

Description:

The Department of Translation and Philology at Universitat Pompeu Fabra,
Barcelona, announces a postdoctoral position in semantics or the
syntax/morphology-semantics interface associated with the project 'Natural
Language Ontology and the Semantic Representation of Abstract Objects'
expected to begin in mid-fall 2007 (the exact date is pending a Ministerial
Resolution) and renewable for up to a total of 3 years.

The ideal candidate will have a research specialization related to at least
one of the focal areas of the project: natural language ontology, event
semantics/Aktionsart, or nominalizations. Job responsibilities will
primarily consist in contributing to the development of the project via
original research in one or more of these areas and in carrying out
supporting tasks related to the project. In principle, teaching is not
required, though the candidate may be asked to help in the advising of
graduate students or the organization of graduate seminars. Knowledge of
Catalan or Spanish is not essential, though familiarity with at least one
Romance language would be useful.

Applicants should send a CV, statement of research interests, two sample
publications, and the names and contact information for two references, to
Louise McNally with the subject line 'postdoc'. Review of applications will
start immediately and continue until the position is filled. All inquiries
about the project/position should be sent to the same address.

Universitat Pompeu Fabra is a highly international, research-oriented
institution whose campuses are located in the center of Barcelona. For more
information about the university see http://www.upf.edu.
