Professor Yisa Kehinde Yusuf, the current Head, Department of English,
Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, will turn 50 in March, 2008.
Professor Yusuf has impacted significantly on scholarship in the areas of
'language and politics', 'language and gender' and proverb studies. In,
2000, he was included in the list of 100 proverb scholars from around the
world by the famous proverb scholar Professor Wolfgang Mieder, and has
received books on proverb studies donated by the John Templeton Foundation
in the United States. He also convened a proverb conference in Nigeria in
2006. To honour this wonderful scholar on his birthday, a book tentatively
entitled 'Language, Politics, and Gender' is being planned.

For inclusion in the book, the editors invite scholarly essays in (but not
limited to) the following areas from the global academic community:

Language and Politics

*Language and political propaganda *Language, politics and the media
*Politics and literary discourse *Language and social mobilisation
*Language and political consciousness *Politics and language contact

Language and Gender

writing styles *Gender and literary discourse *Gender and spousal discourse
*Gender and classroom discourse *Gender and translation
