Description:

Sound to Sense (S2S) is a Marie Curie Research Training Network involving
collaborative speech research amongst 13 universities in 10 countries. A
research training network's primary aim is to support and train young
researchers in professional and inter-disciplinary skills that equip them for
careers in research.

There is an opportunity for 2 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) [and one
postdoctoral researcher (ER)] on Project 1: 'Building Corpora for Discovering
Language-specific and Language-general Patterns of Fine Phonetic Detail.'

2 PhD studentships (3 years each) on Project 1: Universities of York & Sheffield
(UK) and NTNU (Trondheim, Norway). The work may include different languages,
different speech styles, and comparisons between languages. The focus can
include phonetic reductions and turn taking in conversational speech,
morphological and segmental distinctions, and interactions between segments and
prosody.

The appointments will preferably start in autumn 2007. Applicants will normally
work towards a PhD degree, and must have less than 4 years' experience in
postgraduate research (i.e. you will have earned your academic qualifications
for graduate study less than 4 years before your S2S appointment starts).

For a more detailed description of this project, and for details of the other
projects within S2S, please see the website listed below.

The appointed people will receive a standard EU stipend for the country of work,
together with allowances for relocation and language lessons etc.

Due to EU mobility requirements, you cannot be appointed to the country of your
citizenship or to a country where you have lived for more than 12 of the last 36
months.
