Description:

The University of Vermont invites applications for a tenure-track position
of assistant professor in Japanese Language and Literature, beginning in
the fall of 2008.  PhD in Japanese Literature, Japanese Language, or a
closely related field, or evidence of imminent award is required.  Teaching
responsibilities will include the development of new courses in Japanese
literature and culture, as well as contributing to Japanese language
instruction at all undergraduate levels.  Native or near-native fluency in
Japanese, fluency in spoken and written English and experience teaching
Japanese to English-speaking students at the college level are required. 
The University is committed to building a culturally diverse educational
environment. Applicants are requested to include in their cover letter
information about how they will further this goal. The successful candidate
will be expected to undertake an active program of research or creative
activity that leads to publication and presentation in peer-reviewed
scholarly outlets and, where available, to seek extramural funding for that
research.
