Description:

Michigan State University seeks to fill a position as Grant Writer for its
Second Language Studies Ph.D. (http://www.msu.edu/user/sls/) and the Center
for Language Education and Research (CLEAR) in the College of Arts &
Letters beginning August 16, 2007.  

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: master's degree from an accredited
institution; experience in developing and writing programmatic proposals to
governmental and private funding sources; experience working as a
program/project administrator in fields or areas related to second and
foreign language teaching and/or learning; strong background in verbal and
written communication and project coordination; ability to analyze research
proposals for completeness of proposal elements, organization, clarity and
presentation; experience in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and
presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and
experience; ability to participate in conducting research within the area
of second/foreign language teaching and/or learning.

DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: doctorate in language
teaching/learning; self-starter whose strengths include creative thinking,
problem solving, organization, teamwork, and ability to work on several
projects simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment with a customer
service attitude; effective communication with faculty and staff and
ability to accurately describe research projects to funding agencies;
experience in accessing funds from foundations and prior history of
successful grant funding is highly desirable.

JOB SUMMARY: Grant Coordinator.  Assumes responsibility for facilitating
the development, processing and submission of grant proposals of faculty in
the SLS program and in CLEAR. Identifies external sources of funding and
organizes internal and external resources to successfully complete
proposals to compete for funding.  Works with project accountants and
principle investigators to manage grants and contracts from development to
submission.  Facilitates the collection of data needed for grant
development and grant implementation.  Prepares final reports of grants and
contracts as needed by principle investigators.  Position may involve
periodic travel.  Position is initially for one year, but renewal is
possible depending on successful performance.
