Linguistic Field(s): Historical Linguistics

Subject Language(s): English (eng)

Meeting Description:

This is the 2nd International Conference on English Historical Dialectology. The
first one was held in Bergamo in 2003 and selected papers were published in
Dossena, Marina / Lass, Roger (eds) 2004, _Methods and Data in English
Historical Dialectology_. Bern: Peter Lang.

The International Scientific Committee comprises profs. Michael Benskin, Marina
Dossena, Richard Dury, Markku Filppula, Maurizio Gotti, Roger Lass, Margaret
Laing, Anneli Meurman-Solin, Keith Williamson.
Invited Keynote speakers: prof. Sali Tagliamonte (Toronto) and prof. Pieter van
Reenen (Amsterdam).

The conference will start on Thursday morning and end at lunchtime on Saturday.
There will be no parallel sessions: the number of contributions is kept
deliberately low to allow more time for debate. The provisional programme is
available in the Conference website.

The Conference will be hosted by the Dept. of Languages and Compared Cultures
and Literatures of the University of Bergamo (Faculty of Foreign Languages and
Literatures), an institution where research has always been in the foreground
and where various national and international conferences have already been
organized.

Bergamo is in Northern Italy, 50 Kms north-east of Milan. Thanks to its
international airport (sometimes advertised as 'Milan-Orio al Serio', or
Milan-BGY), Bergamo can be reached by plane from many European cities;
alternatively, participants may fly to Milan and take a train to Bergamo - more
detailed information is available in the Conference website. As for
accommodation, various hotels are available, from relatively inexpensive to
luxury (see website for details). Early booking is highly recommended, as
Bergamo is a popular tourist destination throughout the year.

An online registration form will be available in the conference website until
30.06.2007. During the same months it will be possible to pay the registration
fee using the secure online procedure provided by our administration, or opt for
an international bank transfer to Università degli Studi di Bergamo -
see website for details.

Please note:
- No registration can be processed after 1st July 2007 or indeed on-site.
- No partial registration is envisaged, so it will not be possible to register
for just one or two days.
- No registration can be processed unless a copy of the bank transfer reaches
the organizers or credit card payment is authorized.
- All bank charges are to be borne by the participant.
All cancellations should be notified in writing not later than 1st August 2007.
In any case, a cancellation fee of 30 euros will be charged. Reimbursements will
be by bank transfer after the Conference ends.
