The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Department: Division of English
Web Address: http://jobs.nottingham.ac.uk/china

Job Rank: Associate Professor

Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics; Discourse Analysis; Psycholinguistics;
Sociolinguistics

Description:

This is a unique opportunity to assist in the founding of a new Division of
English at the University of Nottingham's attractive campus in Ningbo,
China. 3 posts are initially available, covering applied linguistics
broadly conceived, and including psycholinguistics, discourse analysis,
sociolinguistics and literary stylistics, as well as core areas in applied
linguistics itself.

You will help to develop a suite of degree programmes, including two new BA
degrees and several MA courses. You will be research active and will be
ready to supervise doctoral students. You will also be a founding member of
the new Chinese branch of the Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics in
Ningbo.

All degrees are taught in English and are offered to the same standards and
specification as at the University of Nottingham, UK, and you will work
closely with colleagues there. Currently there are some 1900 students on
campus in Ningbo, including 260 postgraduates, and these numbers will rise
to around 3000 by September 2007 and 4000 by September 2008. The
establishment of the Division of English represents a further major
investment in Nottingham's overseas campuses.

See the University website for more details and application online, or
contact Professor Peter Stockwell for further details.
