Subject: Ania Kubisz is Happy to be at LINGUIST

Dear Subscribers,

I joined the LINGUIST List not that long ago - in January 2007. I
graduated from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, last
October and so I thought I was done with classes. Therefore it was
quite unexpected that I ended up coming to Michigan to work for one of
the most well-known linguistics services worldwide and to continue my
studies at Eastern Michigan University.

Working for The LINGUIST List is really challenging and demanding. At
the same time, it's extremely satisfying. Even though it's been almost
two months since I started here, I've only barely touched the surface
- there's so much to learn and every day brings a new encounter! The
best is that I'm able to work and study in a different country, which
is a truly great opportunity.

I'm in charge of two areas, Calls and Conferences and the People
Directory. Every day I respond to a number of emails from all around
the world and get to read warm and friendly messages from our
users. Posting Calls for Conferences enables me to keep track of what
is happening in the academic world, which is extremely exciting.
Finally, I find it thrilling to develop and gain more computer
experience.

The LL team is a group of hardworking students willing to help and who
really enjoy their work, even above and beyond their set weekly
schedules. Not only do all of us have our everyday tasks, but we also
are able to work on a number of projects. After only two months I must
admit it is great to be one of The LINGUIST List team members. I feel
lucky to be here. And it will make me happy to watch LINGUIST grow and
provide even more services to the linguist community worldwide.

I'd like to send a warm thank you to all of you who have already
donated. Please remember that thanks to your contributions we can
provide our services. At the same time you give the students the
opportunity to study and develop.

Thank you for your support!

Ania Kubisz

Subject: Notice Board: LINGUIST's Classified Adverts

Dear Subscribers,

Looking for a person you took linguistics classes with at your old
university oh-so-many years ago but can't find an address or e-mail?
Maybe you have a rare collection of linguistic journals in mint
condition that you no longer have shelf space for, and would like to
donate? Or maybe you need to sublet your apartment while you are away
doing fieldwork?

For cases like these and many more, when you have something to offer
your fellow linguists or need some kind of help from them, come to The
LINGUIST List Notice Board! Once your notice is posted - for free - it
stays up for 60 days. If you are lucky, someone who is interested will
respond to you by e-mail, and your situation will be solved.

The Notice Board is updated each Friday, not daily as most of our
other categories. It may not be the busiest part of our web site, but
it always has a few notices of interest there.

Questions of a strictly academic nature will be redirected to our
Ask-A-Linguist. And as we run an academic site, we will only post
notices that are relevant to our academic profession. Those interested
in posting job notices related to the commercial sector will be
redirected to our Jobs facility where possible.

If you have ever used the Notice Board in the past, we sincerely hope
that you got what you needed out of it! But if you haven't used it
yet, remember that it is a great place to browse:
http://linguistlist.org/people/notice/index.html

Finally, if you appreciate what web pages such as the Notice Board
have to offer you, please consider sending a donation to The LINGUIST
List during this year's Fund Drive 2007. We are grateful for your
support!

Sincerely,
The LINGUIST List

-----------------------------------------------------------

This Year the LINGUIST List hopes to raise $55,000. This money will go
to help keep the List running by supporting all of our Student Editors
for the coming year.

See below for donation instructions, and don't forget to check out our
Fund Drive 2007 LINGUIST List Superhero Adventure for some Fund Drive
fun!

There are many ways to donate to LINGUIST!

You can donate right now using our secure credit card form.

Alternatively you can also pledge right now and pay later.

For all information on donating and pledging, including information on
how to donate by check, money order, or wire transfer, please visit:

http://linguistlist.org/donate.html

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University
and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is
a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is
38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and
sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more
information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will
match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this
entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us
a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer.
This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the
value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny.
Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
