Description:
Language and Linguistics at Queen's University requests applications from
suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching the following one term
undergraduate course (0.5 course load): LING 202 Canadian English.

LING 202 Canadian English is an option course that attracts students from
Linguistics, English, and a variety of other disciplines.  The course
focuses on regional variation in Canadian English and includes an
introduction to survey techniques and the use of linguistic corpora.  The
course work includes student research projects focusing on a topic in
Canadian English.  The course is supported by the Strathy Language Unit,
which also makes vailable its library collection and electronic resources
for student research projects.

The course is lecture-based and will be taught on the main campus in Fall
Term 2007 (two weekly lectures of 1 hour and 20 minutes each).  An
enrollment of between 25 and 35 is anticipated.  An appointment for the
Fall term commences September 1st, 2007, and terminates December 31st, 2007.

Applicants should have a PhD in Linguistics, a strong background in
sociolinguistics and dialect variation, and will ideally have research
and/or teaching experience in Canadian English.

Academic professionals at Queen's University are governed by two (2)
Collective Agreements between the Queen's University Faculty Association
(QUFA) and the University, which are posted at http://www.qufa.ca.  A
candidate qualified to teach a load of 1.5 full course equivalents or less
may be eligible for appointment to a Sessional Adjunct position, as defined
by the Collective Agreement for Sessional Adjuncts.  A candidate qualified
to teach a load of 2.0 full course equivalents or more may be considered
for appointment to a Term Adjunct position as defined by the Collective
Agreement for Faculty, Librarians and Archivists between QUFA and Queen's
University.  Remuneration will be in accordance with the applicable
Collective Agreement, and includes 3% in lieu of benefits and vacation.  An
additional travel stipend will be available to cover reaqsonable commuting
expenses if the candidate is based outside the Kingston area.
