Abstract:

This book is an introduction book of pragmatics targeted to undergraduate
and graduated students in Korea.

This book takes up the following seven matters. First, it introduces main
concepts of pragmatics and considers the essence of pragmatics. Second, it
discusses the relationship between pragmatics and other linguistic
disciplines. Third, it examines constituents of pragmatics. Fourth, it
reviews pragmatic principles. Fifth, it investigates pragmatic aspects from
various angles, i.e. discourse marking, ellipsis, topic, focus, discourse
strategy, etc. Sixth, it gives careful consideration to the generation of
pragmatic meanings and its interpretation. Finally, it analyzes texts of
spoken and written language from a viewpoint of pragmatics.
