This conference is intended to examine policies and practices implemented since
the initiation of the National English Reform Act in Thailand as well as in many
countries worldwide.  

Education policy has moved forward with the introduction of strategic plans by
the Ministry of Education. These are currently being revised, so what are the
new plans going to look like? And what do language teachers think should be in
them? What should future policies be concerned with and what issues still need
to be identified and legislated?

The conference will address the issues of English language levels of Thai
teachers and learners.  It questions whether or not and to what extent past
policies have had a direct impact on teaching practice as well as explore
factors which impede or stimulate change in English language teaching.

Methodologies are constantly changing. Communicative methods have moved on to
include subject areas in content-based or content-integrated language learning
(CLIL) integrating such skills as thinking and intercultural communication. New
methodologies strive to strike a balance between learning in and out of class,
face to face and through information technology, from task-based to
activity-based and strategy-based.  What impact will these have on teaching
lives?  How can teachers, educators, administrators be ready for these changes
to ensure the development of language learners' abilities? 

The aims of this conference are to:

Highlight the positive changes that have occurred over the last ten years in
English language education in Thailand and other countries

Highlight policies which aid development and practices which exemplify the
future direction of English language teaching in the Kingdom and other countries

To learn from and share with those countries that have been through or are going
through such changes in practice and policy
