The Linguistics Department at Indiana University (IU), Bloomington is
pleased to announce a master's (MA) track in computational linguistics. The
MA offers students training for a career in the growing field of CL and can
provide a platform for further studies. Students of different backgrounds
and interests are encouraged to apply. Students interested in a PhD can
focus their work on computational linguistics, and we hope to initiate a
new PhD track in
computational linguistics in the near future.

The computational linguistics (CL) program at IU is growing, with new
faculty and new course offerings, and it places an emphasis on linking
computational linguistics to linguistics in a data-driven way. The focus of
the CL program is integrated into the Linguistics Department, which
contains internationally-recognized faculty, with interests in theoretical
syntax, phonetics/phonology, sociolinguistics, and African linguistics.
Additionally, the CL program fosters interdisciplinary research
opportunities with affiliated and adjunct faculty in Cognitive Science,
Informatics, Psychology, Library & Information Science, Speech & Hearing
Science, and Second Language Studies. Through programs such as the Indiana
Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), students may connect with industry
in Indiana.

Students can also participate in one of the oldest linguistic student
organizations in the US, the Indiana University Linguistics Club (IULC),
which sponsors social events, outside speakers, and provides travel grants.
