We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Dear all,

I am a MPhil/PhD student, who is working on causal relations identification
in the
Computational linguistics field. For my research I need to discover a
universally accepted and, as much as possible, complete classification of
causal expressions in English, classified on the basis of different
criteria, such as their form (complex, simple), semantic roles (cause,
reason, purpose, etc.), grammatical function, etc.

Does anybody know about the existence of such classification? Or if not,
could you suggest me any relevant works to consult in order to get a
clearer idea?

Thanks in advance,

Irina Temnikova
