Abstract:

This book is a cogent, clearly-written synthesis of new and classic work on
crosslinguistic influences on language and thought. Intended as a text for
upper-level undergraduates and graduate students, it will also serve as a
resource for instructors and scholars in applied linguistics, linguistics,
and psycholinguistics courses. This topic is a perennial favorite in
courses on bilingualism, psycholinguistics, and even cognitive psychology.
It has come into even sharper focus over the past decade with the rapid
increase in the availability of crosslinguistic data from languages other
than English.
