Description:

Starting as soon as possible, the Carl-von-Ossietzky University Oldenburg
offers 2 positions running 3 years in the interdisciplinary DFG-Project
(see out website):
"understanding speech under fluctuating noise in children and adults from
an audiological and psycholinguistic point of view (AULIN)."

Two Doctoral Students  (Wissenschaftliche
Mitarbeiterinnen/Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter; Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L)

One in the department of English Studies and one in the department of Dutch
 [DFG-Anglistik/Niederlandistik]

These positions are funded for 36 months. Salary level will be according to
German public employee pay scale 50% 13 TV-L. 

Tasks: 
Development and validation of language test materials with varied and
controlled linguistic complexity (in close cooperation with audiology);
Standardizing of an interview and elicitation method to create a language
production corpus (child and adult language); analysing these data; Running
experiments with several populations, among other techniques also
eye-tracking (in close cooperation with audiology).

One successful applicant of one of these positions will be responsible for
obtaining and analyzing language production data, the other successful
applicant will focus on language processing experiments. Both positions are
expected to lead to a Dissertation and PhD.

Required is a Masters (or Staatsexamen) degree with excellent grades and a
focus on (psycho)linguistics; working knowledge of German as required in
the interaction with the participants of the experiments; the ability to
work in an interdisciplinary team; knowledge of theories of language
processing or experience with language acquisition research and knowledge
of CHILDES; knowledge of methods for statistical analysis. 

Desired are research experience in one of the areas above, good knowledge
of (generative) syntax theories and experience with planning, running and
analyzing psycholinguistic experiments. 

Special Qualification for both positions:
Since the positions entail close interdisciplinary cooperation, the
willingness and ability to integrate methods, concepts and issues of the
'other' discipline (i.e. audiology) into theories, concepts and methods
current in one's own are required for successful work in this project.
