Description:

The Department of Languages and Linguistics at the University of
Saskatchewan invites applications for a tenure-track position at the
Assistant Professor level in Linguistics, effective 01 July 2008.  

We seek applications from candidates who hold a PhD in Linguistics with a
strong or a promising research record in theoretical, descriptive, or
applied Linguistics. 

Candidates should supply evidence of successful university level teaching.
The selected candidate should be willing to teach a wide variety of
introductory and senior courses in Linguistics and will provide leadership
in our interdisciplinary linguistics program. 

The University of Saskatchewan is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, a
city with a diverse and thriving economic base and a full range of leisure
opportunities. The city boasts a vibrant arts scene including several
professional theatres (both PACT and independent), a symphony orchestra,
and several art galleries. The University offers a full range of
undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs to a student population
of about 20,000. The University is also one of Canada's leading research
universities.

The College of Arts and Science offers a dynamic combination of programs in
the humanities and fine arts, the social sciences, and the sciences. There
are over 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the College and 325
faculty members, including 14 Canada Research Chairs. The College
emphasizes student and faculty research, interdisciplinary programs,
community outreach and international opportunities. Successful candidates
will demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and
graduate supervision. They will be expected to develop a vigorous,
externally funded research program.

evaluations, sample publications, and/or conference papers, and should also
arrange to have three reference letters sent to Professor P. M. Bidwell at
the address given below. The review of applications will begin on 01
February 2008. Prospective applicants are welcomed to consult the
