Description:

Georgia State University's Department of Applied Linguistics/ESL is
accepting applications for two tenure-track positions at the assistant
professor level.  The Department of Applied Linguistics and ESL consists of
five interrelated instructional programs: PhD, MA and BA programs in
Applied Linguistics, an English as a Second Language (ESL) service course
program that provides instruction, assessment, and support for non-native
English speaking matriculated students at the undergraduate and graduate
levels, and an Intensive English Program (IEP) that provides a
comprehensive pre-academic course of study in academic language development
for ESL students who wish to matriculate at Georgia State University (GSU)
or other post-secondary institutions.

Candidates will have a doctorate in applied linguistics or a closely
related field by the time of the appointment.  Candidates with years toward
tenure are encouraged to apply.  Specializations of interest for one
position include corpus linguistics and pedagogical grammar. 
Specializations of interest for the other position include L2 literacy
(reading and/or writing) and/or second language teacher training.

Successful candidates must demonstrate a coherent research agenda, record
of relevant publications, and demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate
and/or graduate courses.  Preferred candidates will also have experience
teaching ESL/EAP and a record of external funding.

Letters of application, a curriculum vitae, copies of research
publications, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and 3 letters of
professional recommendation should be sent to Dr. Diane Belcher.

Review of the applicants will begin November 5, 2007 but will continue
until successful candidates are identified.  The preferred starting date is
fall semester, 2008.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
