NSF Research and Evaluation on Education in Science and Engineering (REESE) 

This solicitation http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2007/nsf07595/nsf07595.htm calls
for three types of proposals in science, technology, engineering and
mathematics (STEM) education. 

1) Knowledge Diffusion proposals are small projects for the synthesis of
existing knowledge on a topic of critical importance to STEM learning and
education or for the diffusion of research based knowledge. The maximum
award is $250,000 for up to 2 years. 

2) Empirical Research proposals should identify areas that have the
potential for advancing discovery and innovation. Proposals are expected to
be based deeply in the STEM disciplines with the potential of contributing
to theory, methodology, and practice. Complex projects involving teams of
multi-disciplinary experts working on conceptually related projects, or
longitudinal or randomized control studies of large samples of participants
are eligible for Large Empirical Research awards up to $2 million for up to
5 years; and 

3) REESE will fund one Diffusion and Evaluation proposal to provide
technical assistance on research methods and analysis procedures,
synthesize findings across the REESE projects, and evaluate and disseminate
REESE findings. 

For the first two types of proposals, areas of interest include behavioral,
cognitive, social, and technological aspects of learning and education;
learning in formal and informal settings; diffusion, implementation, and
the role of context in educational and learning innovations; and
theoretical, methodological, and statistical issues of importance in
advancing research and evaluation. Investigators from across the broad
range of disciplines supported by the NSF are invited to submit proposals.
Interdisciplinary proposals are particularly welcome.

Deadlines: November 5, 2007 for optional letters of intent; January 8, 2008
for full proposals
