Allen, John Patrick Brierley 1936 - 2008 


Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Ontario Institute for Education and
the University of Toronto, died suddenly at his home in Toronto on March
26. Well known for developing the COLT classroom observation system, his
books with Pit Corder on Chomsky, a series of textbooks for specialist
purposes, and his work with the Aga Khan Foundation, Patrick is regarded
with affection by his many students all over the world. He is much loved
and will be missed by his family, his wife Marillene, sons John and Ben and
their wives Jennifer and Amanda and his three grandchildren, Kate Olivia,
Benjamin William and Evelyn Hyatt, and his sister Marilyn and
brother-in-law Chris Hodson of Surrey England, and their children. The
funeral will be held at St. Clements Anglican Church, 59 Briar Hill Avenue
on Wednesday, April 2nd at 11:00 am. Friends may visit at the Trull North
Toronto Funeral Home, 2704 Yonge Street on Tuesday, April 1 from 2:00 to
4:00 pm or 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
