Description:

Part-Time Postdoctoral Research Officer (0.5 FTE)

Starting Salary: £21,478 - £23,883 (on R&A Grade 1A) p.a. pro rata
 
The School of Linguistics and English Language / ESRC Centre for Research
on Bilingualism are currently looking for a Research Officer to manage and
deliver an ESRC funded project entitled 'The ups and downs of learner
intonation: a cross-language and longitudinal investigation of the
intonation systems of L2 learners'. Responsibilities will include labeling
and analysing an extensive speech corpus of the European Sciences
Foundation Second Language Database. The post-holder will be working
closely with the principal investigator on this project, Professor Ineke
Mennen, and on occasion with our Collaborative Partner, Dr Aoju Chen (Max
Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen, The Netherlands).

You should have a PhD or equivalent research experience, a strong
background in phonetics including acoustic analysis, extensive experience
with the autosegmental-metrical approach to intonational analysis (in
particular IViE) and experience with statistical analysis. Strong skills in
PRAAT scripting would be advantageous. You will possess excellent
organisational, analytical and communication skills along with the ability
to develop and maintain a project website. A good working knowledge of
German would be advantageous.   Although the post is advertised as
part-time, there may possibly be some further job opportunities to
supplement the hours. 

The successful candidate will be expected to commence 2nd June, 2008, or as
soon as possible thereafter, and the post is available for a period of 16
months.
