Meeting Description:

The Days of Swiss Linguistics conference traditionally provides young
scientists with a platform to discuss their research in workshops and
addresses current issues in its plenary speeches.

''Measurement in Linguistics'' is a challenging topic for all areas of
linguistic research and provides the methodical and methodological background
required to identify empirically supported and theoretically sound answers to
current questions.

The significance of language, multilingualism, communication, linguistic
variation and linguistic competence in social interaction is becoming
increasingly recognised in view of the current socio-cultural diversity and the
tension in social relations. Describing and assessing these factors
appropriately has become a challenge for society and science, and is perceived
as the basis of social cohesion and inclusion. In this context, linguistics as a
whole is gaining importance and is called upon to develop substantive,
transparent and applicable answers. The 5th Days of Linguistics conference
focuses on ''measurement'' in the sense of ''assigning values'' and establishing
methodical approaches that are theoretically and empirically sound.

Keynote speakers

Professor Dr. Lorenza Mondada, Université Lumière Lyon2
Professor Dr. Douglas Biber, Northern Arizona University
Professor Dr. Tim McNamara, University of Melbourne

Target audience
