Description:

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position as assistant professor
of Japanese and Second Language Acquisition to begin August 2009. The
position will be housed in the Department of Modern and Classical
Languages, Literatures and Cultures. 

Applicants must have PhD in hand by July 2009, with research experience in
Second Language Acquisition and a language specialization in Japanese.
Teaching experience in language courses in Japanese and native or
near-native fluency in English and Japanese are expected. 

Responsibilities of the position include pursuing an active research
program, coordinating the Japanese language curriculum, developing new
courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and teaching a
combined total of four courses per year in Japanese and Second Language
Acquisition. 

Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Applicants should send letter of application, CV, and placement dossier
with at least three letters of recommendation to Chair, Prof. Stayc
DuBravac. Applications will be acknowledged. Review of applications will
begin October 15 and continue until the position is filled. Short-listed
candidates will be asked to provide a statement detailing current and
projected research, related publications or writing samples, and a teaching
portfolio. Initial interviews will then be conducted via phone or
teleconference and three finalists selected for on-campus interviews.
