International Symposium Linguistic & Literary Studies 

Call for Papers

>From 11/15/08 to 12/15/08, professionals interested in coordinating WGs-
Thematic Work Groups -- may send proposals for exam by the Scientific and
Organizing Commissions of the event. They must inform how many presentations the
WG will have. A minimum of 5 (five) communications (an individual session) and a
maximum of 15 presentations (three sessions with 5 presentations each,
distributed along the 3 days of the event). The form for proposals is in the
site www.uftm.edu.br.

Title: title of the WG. Maximum of 100 characters, including spaces. No formats
such as bold-face, italic and underlining are to be used. You may use double
inverted commas for works titles and simple inverted commas for foreign expressions.

Coordinator(S): Coordinators must be at most two (2). Inform the name of the
coordinators. The second coordinator must be named below the first one, in a new
line. Please follow these instructions: Name and surname (Name of Institution
and city). One of the coordinators must be PhD, and the other may be MA. 

Summary: Describe the WG theme. Do not include the title again, and do not write
"Summary". Use 200 and at most 300 words. Do not use capital letters in the
text, except for beginning sentences and in proper names. Do mention the
relevance of the WG, the justification, objectives and other information able to
make prospective participants decide to enroll in the WG.

Call for Papers

We are pleased to announce our international conference English Pronunciation:
Issues & Practices. The conference will bring together researchers and teachers
of English, phonetics, phonology and EFL/ESL/EAP interested in the issues
surrounding English pronunciation, both native and non-native. Discussions will
cover a wide variety of issues, including (but not limited to) the following: 
norms & reference accents
variability in native & non-native accents of English
methodology of accent studies 
pedagogical implications
implications of phonological change 
sociolinguistic aspects and issues of identity
analyses of national or regional language policy

We are privileged to have three plenary speakers:
- Professor J.C. Wells, will speak about the polling carried out for the new
edition of the Longman Pronunciation Dictionary.
- Dr. Helen Fraser from the University of New England, Armidale, Australia, will
speak about Cognitive Phonology and how it can help with teaching pronunciation.
- Professor Yvan Rose, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Collegium de
Lyon, will introduce the Phon software and PhonBank database and discuss how
they can benefit research on the phonology of second language acquisition.

The language of the conference is English.  A selection of conference papers
will be published by the LLS research group at the University of Savoie. 

Organizers: 
The conference is organized by a team of teachers and students coordinated by
Alice Henderson of the University of Savoie (lecturer in English in the
Department of Foreign Languages & Civilizations and coordinator of English for
Academic Purposes in the Social Sciences faculty).

pronunciation are invited. The deadline for abstract submission is December 31,
2008. Please send two copies of an abstract of about 400 words (excluding
references) to colloque-epip at univ-savoie.fr. One copy should bear your name and
affiliation, written under the title; one copy must remain anonymous.
Presentations should last 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions. After the
process of peer-revision, e-mail notifications will be sent out by March 15, 2009.
