Meeting Description:

Various cultures live in the Mediterranean. Various civilizations have
lived in Turkey and Cyprus. Also, the immigrants brought their own food to
Turkey and Cyprus. Sephardim came to the Ottoman Empire after their
expulsion from Spain in 1492. Additionally, Ashkenazim settled in Turkey.
Cyprus has had Turkish, Greek, Jewish, Armenian, Italian, and British
inhabitants for centuries.  

In this symposium, we wish to focus on the food culture of various cultural
groups that live in Turkey, Cyprus, and in other Mediterranean countries,
and investigate the relationship between the food culture and cognition in
different fields, such as Linguistics, Anthropology, Education, Translation
Studies, History, Literature, and Jewish Studies.

History (e.g. containers used for cooking by Hittites)
Literature (e.g. yoghurt in Turkish literature)

We expect to receive the 150 - 250 word abstracts of your presentations and 5 (five) keywords for your presentations until March/15/2008. 20 (twenty) minutes will be given for each presentation, and 10 (ten) minutes will be left for questions. Papers of the accepted abstracts should be written in the APA style. Papers should be submitted at the end of the symposium.

Meeting Description:

AJIHLE is an association of junior researchers working in the field of historical  linguistics and the history of linguistics who have not done their PhD. It was founded in 1999 with the aim of functioning as a meeting point for discussions and linguistic debate, and most of all, for the interchange of ideas between philologists and linguists. After seven editions (Córdoba 2001, Salamanca 2002, Jaén 2003, Madrid 2004, Sevilla 2005, Granada 2006 y Alcalá de Henares 2007), the 8th edition will take place in Barcelona, between the University of Barcelona (Universitat de Barcelona, UB) and the Authonomous University of Barcelona (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, UAB). 

This congress will count with the participation of recognized specialists in this area, such as:
Dr. Ralph Penny, Emeritus Professor, Queen Mary College, London.
Dr. Coloma Lleal, Historical Linguistics Professor, University of Barcelona.
Dr. José Manuel Blecua and Dr. Gloria Clavería, Historical Linguistics Professors, Authonomous University of Barcelona.

Apart from individual contributions, there will also be two round tables, organized by the association members, which will present two problematical topics related with the history of Spanish and with historiographical issues.

Call for Papers

Due to participants' requirement, the call for papers deadline has been postponed until 20th February. Contributions to the 8th Historical Linguistics Junior Researchers Meeting must be related with the following areas:

- Historical phonetics and phonology. Ortography.
- Historical morphosyntax and syntax.
- Textual criticism.
- Historical lexicography, lexicology and semantics.
- History of linguistics and of linguistic ideas.
- History of Spanish and history of linguistics' methodology.
- Historical phraseology.

To participate in the meeting, an abstract around 500 word is firstly required. The meeting official language will be Spanish. All contributions will be later on published in a volume. Debido a la petición de los participantes, el plazo para enviar las propuestas de comunicación ha sido ampliado hasta el 20 de febrero. Las propuestas de comunicación deben estar relacionadas con las siguientes áreas:
