We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Hello there

We are two final year university students and for our degree in 'French
Studies' we are doing a small sociolinguistics project and would like to
know if anybody knows of any resources that may help us.

Our study is looking at the differences in attitudes towards colloquial
language and the 'standard' French in Metropolitan France and in Quebec.
The methodology used is the same as that of Lodge 1999, Colloquial
vocabulary and politeness in French. Our study is taking the same
methodology but putting it into a new context with the aim to find out if
in Quebec colloquial words are more acceptable and there is less linguistic
insecurity and a lower feeling of prestige towards the standard than in France.

If anyone has any information that may be of interest to us we will be most
grateful.

Thank you very much,
Helen and Lauren
