Meeting Description:

The Department of Language and Communication at VU University Amsterdam will
host the 9th Biennial IAFL Conference on Forensic Linguistics/Language and Law. 

Call for Papers

We invite individual papers and posters that deal with all aspects of forensic
linguistics/language and law, including but not limited to topics such as:
- courtroom interaction
- police interviews
- courtroom interpreting and translating 
- the readability/comprehensibility of legal documents 
- the analysis/interpretation of legal texts
- the communicative challenges of 'vulnerable' witnesses
- language minorities and the legal system
- the use of linguistic evidence in court 
- authorship/speaker identification 
- the teaching/testing of forensic linguistics/language and law

Presentations will be 20 minutes, with 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
Abstracts should be 300-350 words long and can be submitted electronically at
the conference website http://iafl09.let.vu.nl/ 

We also invite proposals for thematic sessions which are scheduled for 2-hour
blocks, with a maximum of two linked sessions. Organizers may organize as they
choose, but time should be allocated for presentations, discussion and audience
response. Proposals with an indication of participants and a brief description
of their contributions may be submitted electronically at the conference website
http://iafl09.let.vu.nl/ 

Important Dates:
November 14 2008: Abstracts are due 
January 2009: Notification of acceptance of papers.

Call for Papers

Submissions of two-page anonymous abstracts (4000 ca) are invited on any issue
issue having to do with the notion of propositional content and the ontology of
proposition-like objects, such as propositions, facts and possibilities. The
topic will include, but is not limited to: problems of non-mereological
composition, nonpropositional approaches to the semantics of sentential
complements, singular propositions, Fregean propositions, minimal propositions,
and illocutionary acts and their propositional contents.

Please send a 2-page abstract as an e-mail attachment (in Word or RTF) for blind
refereeing to < alexandra.arapinis at malix.univ-paris1.fr > before August 15,
2008, indicating in a separate document:

(1) your name;
(2) the title of the abstract;
(3) your e-mail address;
(4) your institutional affiliation;
(5) any special needs (such as overhead projector, powerpoint).

All submissions will be acknowledged. If you do not receive an acknowledgment,
please bring this to our attention. Notification of acceptance by August 30, 2008.
