7th Roundtable for the Semiotics of Law


Call for Papers



Papers should reflect the interdisciplinary nature of legal semiotics
research. They should focus on the themes of the Roundtable, namely the
progress to date in the many facets -methodological, epistemological and
conceptual - of the field of legal semiotics. These might include but are
not limited to analyses on:
-	The central debates in legal semiotics and the progress/key developments
in the last decade 
-	How we acquire knowledge in the field including the role of different
research 'approaches' 
-	Method, methodology and epistemology in legal semiotics 
-	The relevant contribution of different theoretical traditions in legal
semiotics 
-	New approaches to studying legal texts and legal discourse in different
legal cultures 
-	The promises and limits of deconstructionism in studying the law, legal
cultures 
-	The political and/or ideological uses of particular approaches in legal
semiotics 



Papers can be submitted in either English or French by e-mail to Sophie
Cacciaguidi-Fahy at sofiecacciaguidi at eircom.net and Anne Wagner at

The refereeing process follows the normal double blind review process of
the International Journal for the Semiotics of Law.

Date of submission: Full papers to be submitted by 1st October 2008.
Decision for authors: 5th January 2009 [or earlier as the case may be].
Final version of selected papers: Revised papers to be submitted by 5th
February 2009.



Length of manuscript: 5000 words [minimum] to 6000 words [maximum]
including the abstract, footnotes and the bibliography; namely 25 pages
maximum double spaced including the abstract, footnotes and the bibliography.

Title Page: on a separate page include the name of the author; Title of the
article; Affiliation and e-mail addresses of the author.

Abstract: Please provide an abstract of 100 to 150 words. The abstract
should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references.

Keywords: no more than 6.


Acknowledgments: Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be
placed in a separate section before the reference list/bibliography. The
names of funding organizations should be written in full.

Text format: Justified double space 12 Point Times New Roman font;
Justified double space 10 Point Times New Roman for quotes of more than 40
words to be set out from the text by a line above and below; Footnotes
justified double space 10 Point Times New Roman [to be used sparingly].
	No extra line between paragraphs.
	Indent paragraphs by 1 cm from the margin except for the first paragraph
of each section.

Citation style: Chicago Manual of Style [citation of authors to be included

One author: 	(Tusseau 2001) (Dworkin 1995, 40-41)
Two authors:	(Cowlishaw and Dunbar 2000, 104-7)
Three authors: 	(Tusseau, Bozzo-Rey and Paour 2007, 15-28)
Four or more: 	(Laumann et al. 1994, 262) 
Several authors: 	(Dworkin 1995; Tusseau 2001; Larche 2004)

References/Bibliography: The list of references should only include works
that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for
publication. 

Footnotes: Footnotes are numbered consecutively and should be placed after
the punctuation.
