Description:

Associate Professor in English linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities,
Department of language and linguistics - temporary position
1.1.2009-31.12.2012.

For appointment as an Associate Professor, the minimum requirement is a
Norwegian doctoral degree or equivalent qualifications. 

The applicant must document scientific qualifications in English
linguistics with a specialization in syntax. The area of research should be
within the research fields of our Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical
Linguistics (CASTL), see http://uit.no/castl.

Further, applicants must be able to document teaching qualifications in the
form of university-level teaching seminars, other teaching education or a
teaching portfolio. In special circumstances, documented practical teaching
skills may also be considered. Since this is a temporary position, the
requirement for teaching qualifications may be regarded less strictly after

The person appointed for the position must take part in the obligatory
teaching in English at all levels (bachelor, master, PhD), including
courses at CASTL, and supervise students at all levels. In addition it may
be necessary to teach joint and interdisciplinary courses. 

The applicant should have a good command of Norwegian or another
Scandinavian language, or be willing to learn Norwegian within a reasonable
period.

Under normal circumstances, 50% of the total working time will be allocated
for research, research-related tasks and research administration, and the
remaining 50% for teaching, teaching-related tasks and administration.

The remuneration for Associate Professors is in accordance with the State
wage scale, code 1011. A compulsory contribution of 2% is made to the
Norwegian State Pension Fund.

Applicants will be evaluated by an expert committee. The main emphasis will
be on assessment of the submitted scholarly works. Teaching qualifications,
popularisation/ dissemination and policy and administration work will also
be considered. 

The University of Tromsø wishes to increase the proportion of female
researchers. In the event that two or more applicants are found to be
approximately equally qualified, female applicants will be given priority.
