Call for Papers

Extended deadline 

The 2nd European Conference on Korean Linguistics Conference (ECKL) invites papers from all sub-areas of Korean linguistics and Korean-Japanese comparative/contrastive linguistics. Areas of particular interests are not limited but include historical linguistics, typology, syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology, phonetics, psycholinguistics, corpus linguistics and language teaching. Presentations will be 20 minutes long and will be followed by a 10-minute question and answer period. Please submit abstracts (one page, 500 words maximum) as a PDF file attached to an email message to eckl08 at yahoo.co.uk.You may use a second page for references and/or example sentences. The first line of your abstract should indicate the category (Formal or Functional), followed by the sub-field (e.g., Formal/Syntax, Functional/Discourse, etc.) Do not include any author information in the body of your abstract. Following your abstract, include the following information, which will be removed before your abstract is sent out for review. 

1. Name(s) and affiliation(s) of the author(s)
2. Address
3. Phone number
4. E-mail address of the primary author.
5. If your address, phone number or e-mail address will be different during the spring or summer, be sure to include this information.

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 30 March. Notification of acceptance will be given by end of April 2008. Necessary information about the conference, including programme and accommodation facilities, will appear on our conference website from March/April 2008 onwards. Please note that only one abstract from each individual can be considered for acceptance. One individual abstract and one jointly authored abstract may be submitted. It is planned that selected papers from the conference will appear in an edited volume to be published in 2009. The conference is jointly organised by the Centre of Korean Studies at SOAS and the Oriental Institute at the University of Oxford

Last Call for Papers

The Research Institute for Linguistics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS), LAboratoire de SEmioLinguistique, Didactique et Informatique (LASELDI, Univ. de Franche-Comté) and Maison des Sciences de l'Homme Claude Ledoux, France, are pleased to announce the 2008 NooJ Conference to be held in Budapest, Hungary, 8-10 June, 2008.

NooJ is a freeware, linguistic engineering development environment used to formalize various types of textual phenomena (orthography, lexical and productive morphology, local, structural and transformational syntax) using a large gamut of computational devices (from Finite-State Automata to Augmented Recursive Transition Networks). NooJ includes tools to construct, test, debug, maintain and accumulate large sets linguistic resources, and can apply them to large texts. NooJ is used as a linguistic engineering development platform, a corpus processor, an information extraction system, a terminological extractor, a Machine Translation development tool as well as to teach linguistics and computational linguistics.

This conference will hopefully provide an opportunity for NooJ users, as well as other researchers interested in corpus linguistics, to meet and to exchange their experience of development, research or teaching. It will also be the occasion to present and discover the recent developments of NooJ (v2.0).

To submit a paper, please send a one-page abstract before March 7, 2008 to nooj08nytud.hu . The abstract, in French or in English, should contain the title of the article, the name, institution, surface mail and electronic address of each co-author. All papers will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee. Authors will be notified whether their papers are accepted or rejected by 30 April, 2008 the latest. The timeslot is 30 minutes for presentations, including 5 minutes for discussions.
