Description:

Position: Full-time Temporary Lecturer/Language Lab Director.

Starting Date: September 2008

Minimum Qualifications: MA in the language of his or her expertise (i.e.,
the target language), instructional technology, or related field.  Native
or near-native fluency in the target language and English.  Expertise in
computer-assisted and web-based language learning, including long distance
learning. Teaching experience using a variety of methodologies.  Ability
and willingness to teach all levels of language courses in the target
language, using proficiency-oriented language teaching methods.  Ability to
direct and manage the Language Lab, train and supervise its student
employees, and strengthen its instructional use.  Ability and willingness
to keep up with new developments in instructional technology in language
learning, inform the Department about them, and advise and train faculty on
the use of new technology.  Potential for research, scholarly and/or
creative activity involving students whenever possible.  Demonstrated
ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications: PhD or EdD in the language of his or her
expertise, instructional technology, or related field.  Ability and
willingness to teach courses in another (foreign) language and/or Modern
Language courses.

Duties: The Language Lab Director will work with the Department Chair and
faculty to integrate the language Lab and related technology into teaching
and learning in the Department.  The Director will familiarize and assist
faculty with the Lab and its use in teaching and testing, and keep the
Department informed about new developments in instructional technologies
that enhance language learning.  He/she will train and supervise the
student employees who staff the Lab, assist students in using the Lab, and
maintain ongoing records of Lab use.  The Director reports to the
Department Chair and serves as a liaison with key Department faculty and
the College's Instructional Technology Consultant.  The Director will teach
one course (4 quarter units) per quarter in the language of his or her
expertise.

Salary Range: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
