The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

University or Organization: Aksis
Department: UNIFOB/Aksis
Job Location: Bergen, Norway
Web Address: http://www.aksis.uib.no

Job Rank: Research Director

Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; Research and Administration

Description:

AKSIS is a Research and Development Centre that is organised in three
research groups: Language Technology, Text Technology and InterMedia, which
includes technology-enhanced learning, among other foci. Research and
development at AKSIS is interdisciplinary and is often in collaboration
with researchers at the University of Bergen. AKSIS also collaborates with
other governmental and private research and development groups, both
nationally and internationally. AKSIS has 30-40 researchers, programmers
and consultants and a yearly budget of approximately 25 million kroner
(approx. 3.5 million Euros).

AKSIS is a department of University Research Bergen (Unifob), a non-profit
research organisation affiliated to the University of Bergen
(http://www.unifob.no). While the major sources of funding have come from
public bodies such as the Norwegian Research Council, the University of
Bergen, Ministries and the EU, the centre has ambitions to strengthen
research collaboration with the private/industrial sector.

AKSIS invites applications for a vacant position as Research Director. The
Research Director will lead both the research activities and
administration, and have personnel responsibility for AKSIS' employees. The
Research Director will be a member of Unifob's leader group and reports to
Unifob's Managing Director.

We are looking for a Research Director who, together with his/her staff,
can further develop AKSIS as a Research Centre at a high international
level. A PhD is a minimum requirement, and it is an advantage to have been
found qualified as a full professor. The position requires relevant
leadership experience and strengths in strategic thinking. Also desired are
good project development skills, a successful grant record, and the ability
to develop new research themes and strategies in collaboration with other
researchers at the Centre. The Research Director must be good at building
national and international collaboration with different research groups,
industry and the governmental sector.

Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These donations
