Dear subscribers,

Ready... set... donate now!  This year's Grad School Challenge has begun!  For the 
past four years, schools across the globe have competed to see who can raise the 
most donations for The LINGUIST List during our Fund Drive. Generous faculty, 
students and alumni show their support for LINGUIST by contributing to our operations.  
Some schools actually organize group donations and challenge their rival school to 
match them.  Students can challenge faculty to match their donations, too!  

Any school is welcome to participate.  To join in the competition, simply enter 
the name of your school in the box provided when you donate:

If you'd like to organize your university department to donate to LINGUIST, visit

We will keep track of how much is credited toward each school.  Each day the leading 
school has their logo and name prominently displayed on The LINGUIST List homepage, 
along with a link to the school's homepage.  It's a great way to highlight your school 
for the linguistics community and show that you have an active, loyal, and

Every day all around the LINGUIST site, we will also recognize the school that 
donated the largest amount the preceeding day, so take a look and see if you can 
make your school be featured too!

In 2007, Stanford took first place for the Grad School Challege with over $3,000 
in contributions.  The University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the University 
of Arizona were not far behind!  Who will win this year?  It's up to you!  
Remember that anyone can donate - you don't have to be a grad student, only loyal 
to your school!

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match any 
gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your contacting 
your human resources department and sending us a form that the EMU Foundation fills 
in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative procedure 
that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra penny.
