series of mini-lectures on language, gender, identity and ideology, followed by
a one-day workshop on related issues (June 13).

The week of June 9-13 Indiana University will host Sociolinguisticsfest, a
series of mini-lectures on language, gender, identity and ideology. 

Scheduled lecturers:

Mary Bucholtz (UC Santa Barbara) ''Language and Identity; Indexicality, Ideology
and Style''

Susan Herring /John Paolillio (Indiana University) ''The Sociolinguistics of
Online Communication''

Scott Kiesling (University of Pittsburgh) ''Gender, Interaction and Social
Meaning in Linguistic Variation'' 

Dennis Preston (Michigan State) ''The Role of Attitudes and Perception in
Language Variation and Change''

Sali Tagliamonte (University of Toronto) ''Sex and Age Variation: A Quantitative
Sociolinguistic Approach'' 

Lectures will be given Monday-Thursday (June 9-12) followed by a one-day
workshop, Friday, June 13. The workshop is a venue for attendees of
Sociolinguistics Fest (and others) to present their work on topics of language,
gender, identity and ideology.

On-line pre-registration for the lecture series (June 8-12) is $50 for students
and $100 for non-students.

On-line pre-registration for the one-day workshop (June 13) is $15 for students
and $25 for non-students.

 *Fees if registered and paid before May 30, 2008. Fees for last-minute
registration will be slightly higher. 

SociolinguisticsFest is co-sponsored by The Indiana University Departments of
Anthropology, English, French and Italian, Germanic Studies, Language Education,
Linguistics, Second Language Studies, Sociology, Spanish and Portuguese, the
Office of Women's Affairs, the School of Library and Information Science, the
Speech Research Laboratory and the Indiana University Linguistics Club.
