Lecturer in Modern English Language Studies 
School of Letters, Art and Media

Applications are invited for a fixed-term (5 years) Lectureship at Level A
or B in Modern English Language Studies in the Department of English within
the School of Letters, Art and Media.  The Department of English currently
has twenty-nine academic staff, and offers undergraduate and postgraduate
education and training in all fields and periods of English language and
literature, from the medieval to the contemporary. The position is
available from July 2008, but applications from those able to take up post
in February 2009 will be considered.

The department is seeking a Lecturer who has demonstrable expertise in any
branch or branches of Modern English Language Studies; for example,
rhetoric, language and its contextual practice, literary stylistics, the
descriptive grammar of English, the history of the English language,
semiotics. The appointee will be expected to teach undergraduate and
Honours units of study, to contribute to postgraduate coursework units, and
to supervise Honours students in relevant fields.  In addition, they will
be expected to undertake administration and curriculum development as
required, and to pursue an active research program.

Applicants must have a doctorate in English or another related field, or
expect to have been awarded the degree by the time they take up the
appointment. They must be able to provide evidence of research publication
and current research activity in their field.  Experience in teaching at
undergraduate level and ability to contribute to more than one area of
departmental teaching are essential. Applicants must be willing to assist
with the teaching of Academic Writing and in the Master of Professional
Communication program; they must also have excellent communication skills
and a commitment to teamwork in the teaching environment. Experience in
lecturing and in the supervision of Honours students is desirable.

The position is full-time fixed term for five years, subject to the
completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.
Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of
employment for new appointees.  

Remuneration package: $60,711 - $102,992 p.a. (which includes a base salary
Senior Lecturer Level A/B, $51,302 - $87,030 p.a., leave loading and up to
17% employer's contribution to superannuation. Level of appointment and
responsibility will be commensurate with degree, qualifications, and
experience.
